Hey there!
Dustin here, it has been a good while since I did any internet publishing, but I am starting fresh, re-aligning my priorities and goals, and starting off in a new direction.
In the article I posted on Tusday, I outlined my renewed sense of direction, moving towards open communities rather than monolithic corporate software. In that spirit, I will be focusing on creating open-source software and finding ways for folks to access my labor in whatever ways work for them. I've added two new pages to the site, one about working with me in a more consultant-y way, and one about supporting me, and whatever work I do directly. I've just configured a basic subscription plan, intended to work just like Patreon, but without you know, the Patreon part (I want to stay in direct contact with supporters, not through an external corporation). If you'd like to directly support me with the equivalent of a coffee a month, you can do that here
If you decide to sign up, I'll invite you to a private discord where we can chat. Eventually, that's all going to be done by the robots, but for now, I'll send it along manually.
Supporting me directly will let me spend more time on open-source work, including:
- Drupal modules
- Initial focus is going to be around some enhancements to Drupal Commerce, this shift in methodology has given me some ideas for some things that could be done with Drupal that I think people will enjoy and find useful.
- Developer tooling
- I've always loved making tools for other devs, it's why I spent so much time on Terminus and Lando over the last few years, I can imagine some of this coming along in the future
- An Install profile for Indie Creators
- I've just gotten this started, but its going to be a conglomeration of the modules mentioned above, and hopefully, a rad theme. Heavily inspired by Commerce Kickstart, but more focused on the solo folks just looking to an independent way to fund their work.
- Tutorials
- Blog posts
- Videos
- Example repos
I'm already starting to work on these things, so expect future newsletters to include details on what I've been working on.
To all those that celebrate this time of year, Happy Holidays!
Dustin
